For the month of March, we were thrilled to partner with Lowcountry Blessing Box Project in our 12 Months of Giving campaign. This grassroots nonprofit group builds, places, maintains and stocks anonymous donation sites for non-perishable food items throughout the Lowcountry in an effort to fight food insecurity.
Blessing Boxes are stocked with non-perishable food items, basic toiletries, baby supplies and anything else that might be considered a blessing to someone who finds themselves in need. Items are anonymously donated and anonymously received. A simple rule applies – Leave what you can, take what you need.
As March ushered in the first COVID-19 shutdowns, layoffs and the call for self-isolation, not to mention real fears of virus exposure, keeping these boxes full for those in need felt like the right thing to do.
We organized a food drive within the neighborhoods of our crew members and were able to collect enough pantry staples to fill boxes ranging from West Ashley to Mount Pleasant, Ladson and Hanahan, with a few bags to spare, which were distributed as needed throughout the rest of the month.
Look at all these cuties pitching in to spread much needed feel good vibes…and tons of groceries! As our favorite 2-year-old would say, VaughnBuilt sends out a “HUGE-MONGOUS” thanks to all who participated and donated.
